An Ode to Creative Rhythm: Sam in Virginia

Sam is a creative, intuitive mother living in Virginia. With a background as a vintage reseller, her world is built from pieces that have lived many lives before her own. She’s drawn to the stories held in worn fabrics, the quiet fingerprints of time, and the way objects can carry both ancestry and imagination at once.

Her creative practice is deeply influenced by The Artist’s Way—a devotion to returning, again and again, to the self.

What inspires you daily?

“Our good & beautiful Earth—how our lives grow and change with the seasons each year, and the boundless supply of creative energy we each have access to.”

How do you find your creative self when you’re in a slump?

“I unplug from all responsibilities and tune in to where my body wants to take me. Morning pages from The Artist's Way help me get clear. On days where I have no meetings, clients, or deadlines, I take it as an invitation to play—to do what feels natural, instead of filling the space with more work.”

How do you balance creativity with motherhood?

“I’m very boundaried when it comes to my creative work. I do not mother when I’m in flow with a project. And if I need to, I’ll ask for support or hire help so I can fully give myself to what I’m working on—and in turn, fully give myself to my daughter when it’s time to mother her.

My best work happens when I give it my full presence. I’m constantly being reminded by my vaster self: ‘one thing at a time, please."

Do you have any words of advice for women finding their creative voice?

“Just try stuff. It’ll be bad. You’ll hate it at first—but the more you do the thing, the better you’ll get, and the deeper you’ll fall in love with the process itself.”

What styles have you been loving from Bird of Flight?

“I love my Ruby Amelies. They’re the perfect pop of color for all occasions.”

How have you been styling your Amelies?

“Think schoolteacher Americana with a hint of alt punk.”
